Pride!

For the first time this year, we went to Pittsburgh Pride!  It was a very colorful event and we got to bring out our new team banner, which was very exciting. Pride was a fantastic experience for our team and we were the only robotics team present! Hopefully next year more teams will participate in this great inclusive event.

Autism Speaks Walk!

As you all know, the busy off-season (and one of our favorite part of robotics!) has begun. We participated in the Autism Speaks walk as a team for the first time this year! Since Autism Speaks is our marquee charity (and a cause close to our heart as a team), it was wonderful to go to the walk and be able to fundraise for their organization. We can't wait to do it next year!

Memorial Day!

We had the pleasure of participating again in the White Oak Memorial Day parade this year! Every year we have a float in the Memorial Day parade and it is a wonderful event. It's great to be a part of the holiday and to have the opportunity to share our robot with our local community.

MS Walk and the start of Off Season 2017!

This past weekend was our first off season event- the MS walk! MS is a cause that is close to the heart of our team and we are proud to walk to support awareness.  Our graphics team designed a great t-shirt for us to wear as a team and we proudly wore these during the beautiful morning walk.

Our next off season event is the Autism Speaks walk on May 21st!

Greater Pittsburgh Regional

So much to talk about!

We competed at the Greater Pittsburgh Regional this past weekend and proudly took home the Judges Award! We were seeded 10th at the end of qualification matches and captained the 8th alliance in quarterfinal competition.  The Greater Pittsburgh Regional is our home regional, so we were so excited and proud to compete at the top level on our home turf. Our team played hard, and handed our friends the Hawaiian Kids (Team 359) their only loss during finals competition. We took a ton of great pictures this weekend, so please check out the gallery to see our team in action.  We were also featured in the Tribune Review this weekend! http://triblive.com/local/westmoreland/12006207-74/robotics-teams-from-western-pennsylvania-nationwide-add-human-element-to-mechanized-battles

It was a pleasure to see and play with so many of our friends on the Steel City Robotics Alliance during the Pittsburgh Regional and we wish everyone the best of luck during the rest of the season!

As part of our work in Pittsburgh, we are also starting the FIRST Lettering Initiative to help other teams achieve varsity lettering status at their school. Watch this space for more information, and hit our contact link or send us an email at first.team1708@gmail.com to get involved!
